Subject - The Big Boost Awards

Posted : (Monday 8th January 2007 ) By - Jane (Registered User)The Big Boost is an awards programme which has been launched to encourage young people to set up projects that make a real difference.

The Big Boost, will help young people start up projects that The Scarman Trust hopes will make a lasting difference to them as well as their communities. The programme will support more than 12,000 young people over two years.

They are particularly keen to reach young people from less well-off backgrounds.

The Big Boost awards programme is funded by the Big Lottery Fund. It is part of their Young People's Fund, Grants to individuals programme, which aims to offer more opportunities to young people and help them improve local communities.
A Big Boost award is cash plus support needed to help young people like you, make their ideas a reality.

The awards are for individuals or small informal groups, living in England. All Award Winners will be directly involved in running a project for community benefit, both in groups and individually. The Scarman Trust will provide advice, training and other support for all of our Award Winners, to give their projects the best chance of success.

There are two kinds of awards; one for 11-16 year olds and one for 16-25year olds.

* If you are still at school you would apply for the 11-16 year old award.
* If you have left school or still in education but are in year twelve or above then you would apply for the 16-25 year old award.

Awards to 16-25 year olds

* These are awards of £500 to £5000
* These awards are given to individuals or small groups
* We will give out 2,400 to 16-25 year olds over the two years that the Big Boost programme will run.
