Subject - Get Walking!

Posted : (Tuesday 20th May 2008 ) By - Jane (Registered User)This is an
exiting new urban walking project developed

by The Ramblers
Association to increase regular independent

walking among previously
inactive or insufficiently active people

in deprived parts of
Manchester. It is especially targeted at people

from low-income
groups and black and minority ethnic backgrounds,

and people with
mental health problems.

The long-term aim of
the project is to change peoples's behaviour,

to walk more as
part of their everyday lives, thereby making a big

contribution
to their physical and mental well-being.

The heart
of the project is a free 12-week walking programme

(see
attachment), including the following: - A
Welcome to Walking session with tips and advice on

how to get the
most out of walking

- A series of easy led walks and other
activities

- Support from our local Walk Ambassadors

- 12-week
plan
Information and advice helping people to keep walking
