Who's a hero in your community?
Community Awards 2008 - Local Hero
Do you know a real-life Manchester hero - someone who helps make your community a better place to live and work?
If you know someone who deserves to be recognised for their contribution, why not nominate them for a Manchester City Council Community Award. Manchester City Council knows that there are many people working hard to improve life in our communities, and the Community Awards are a great way to recognise those Community Heroes and the brilliant difference they make.
You can nominate anyone who lives or works within Manchester's city boundaries. So if you know someone who volunteers to improve their community, and you would like to nominate them for one of the categories below, use our online nomination form.
These are the eight categories, with a brief example to help you decide which category is best for the person / people you know:
* Good Neighbour - does odd jobs for others that they are unable to do for themselves, helps out those who live nearby, or welcomes everyone to the community
* Contribution to the Environment (group or individual) - organises environmental events, such as litter-picks or planting, or works to raise awareness of environmental issues
* Contribution to the Community (group or individual) - actively participates in community groups, looks out for their community, helps with local clubs and activities, or organises events and outings
* Taking a Stand - takes a stand against antisocial behaviour in the community, such as graffiti, or the sale of alcohol to underage people
