Subject - Free legal advice for community groups

Posted : (Tuesday 8th April 2008 ) By - Jane (Registered User)

Quality legal advice is invariably out of the reach of non-profitable organisations. LawWorks for Community Groups was launched by the Solicitors Pro Bono Group to fill this gap - thanks to a national network of volunteer lawyers, free business law advice can be provided to community groups who do not have sufficient funds to pay for legal fees.

The advice offered is for such matters as Corporate law (e.g. advice on contracts and setting up company limited by guarantees), Employment Law (e.g. drafting or updating employment contracts), Intellectual Property (e.g. advice on copywright, data protection, website use), Property Law (e.g. lease terms) and many more where a court case or employment tribunal is not needed.

When an application is received it is first reviewed by the LawWorks for Community Groups team who will then select the right volunteer lawyer who will deal with the matter directly. All of the volunteer lawyers treat these cases just as they would treat one for which they are paid.

If you manage a community group that benefit the community in England or Wales and have a matter that needs to be resolved, do not hesitate to fill an application on the Solicitors Pro Bono Group website, LawWorks for Community Groups section (http://www.lawworks.org.uk). You can also call us at 020 7929 5601 and we will be happy to send you an application form by post.
