Subject - Housing in East Manchester

Housing is a massive issue everywhere at the moment, and East Manchester is building as many houses as it can. Is this a good thing, well yes, if some thought went into what people want. The truth is very sad, I see see poorly constructed houses, cheap with a very 70's look. What does that mean, they all look the same, they are not very big, they are not built to last, many will need maintenance in the next 5 years if not sooner, they certainly won't last the next fifty years. Mistakes were made in the 70's, and I believe we have got it wrong again, choosing quantity over quality.
An issue that has not been addressed is catering for the elderly, we all know what they want. Why are the people who are in a position to do something about it, not listening, open your eyes and ears Sean McGonigle, yes it's that man again who is to blame. How many bungalows have been provided in East Manchester, as opposed to the number of elderly who would like one. Not very many I'm afraid, more money can be made from apartments or building as many shoebox houses as you can. Obviously elderly people come very low on the order of priorities for Sean, some may ask why I keep attacking Sean McGonigle. He is the man responsible for the regeneration of East Manchester, so quite obviously he is the man to blame.
There is a master plan, and the overall look of East Manchester is not a pretty one, so someone is too blame, houses look cheap, materials used are sub standard, we have gone back to using bits of wood, metal, tiles or render to make houses appear pleasing, some people may be easily fooled, but time will prove this to be a bad idea. Looking around there are new builds that are in need of some repair even now, we are only 2 years on, and I'm sure people who live in some of the new houses already have issues.
The sad fact is the people of East Manchester now have to put up and live with this mistake.

Housing in East Manchester

Hi Everyone
The single biggest issue concerns how our elderly people are treated, not a lot of thought has gone into this.
I recently visited towns outside manchester, and noticed areas still exist where the elderly were catered for. It's a bit like creating a community within a community, I am quite sure if we asked the elderly their thoughts, they would tell us they would prefer to be surrounded by people of their own age group, but not totally segregated from the wider community. When I look at all the new builds going on, this has not entered into the minds of the people in charge.
I have talked to many elderly people, and find that their excitment at all the regeneration has now not turned to dismay, they were expecting bungalows to be built. All they find are token gestures here and there, with only a few being built. In fact it would be nice to find out from MCC, Housing Associations etc just how many people want bungalows, as opposed to how many have been built.
Cheers
