Description

10 month contract with possibility of extension dependent on additional funding

Herbie, is a local greengrocer project run by the sustainable development charity MERCi. We have been working in partnership with a range of organisations, such as Zest and the Manchester City Council Joint Health Unit, to develop programmes to improve public access to and increase public consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables. We have been operating Herbie for the last three years and we have now received increased funding through the Joint Health Unit and the Big Lottery Fund to further develop this service.

We operate two vehicles and both vehicles stop at a number of sites throughout East and North Manchester. The Development Worker will work closely with the Herbie Project Workers, stakeholders and partners, champions and volunteers to promote the advantages of healthy eating within the local community. The Development Worker will be responsible for operational management, support of staff and volunteers and extending the reach of the service through marketing, promotion and events. They will also research and explore the potential for sustainable trading structures and local supply chains.

As well as these activities the Development worker must be able to offer emergency driver cover. Experience of working in a community context is essential and previous experience of selling fruit and vegetables and running cooking and gardening projects would be an advantage.
